The unofficial race mascot, decorated differently every year!

The April Fool's Run is just one of many athletic events on the Sunshine Coast. For those of you who live here or just enjoy visiting, we have compiled this calendar of races for your convenience. A number are hosted by Sunshine Coast Athletics. All local runners are invited to join our club for group runs, speed training, race travel and parties!

If you know of any Sunshine Coast runs, triathlons, bike races, etc. that are not listed here, please let us know about them. Please include event name, location, date, and contact info.

Sunshine Coast race directors, if your event does not have a website, send us your entry form (PDF file) and we'll post it here.

January 1, 2010: Resolution Run. A great way to start the new year off right. Fun family-oriented run in Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, starts at 12 noon. Contact Teresa and Larry 604-885-8849 or email sca@telus.net, or visit Sunshine Coast Athletics website.


snowshoe race March 6, 2010: Second annual Off The Edge Snowshoe Challenge on Dakota Ridge. 5k and 10k races, starting at noon. Snowshoe rental available. Hike or run through challenging terrain that includes single track, double track, cat track, up and down ski runs, open fields of fresh powder and much more. Snowshoe Challenge CANCELLED due to lack of snow. Stay tuned for a biking event for the same day. www.offtheedge.org


May 8-9, 2010: Tune up your mountain bike for the Sunshine Coaster, held on the popular trails of the Sunshine Coast in Roberts Creek. Contact sunshinecoaster@eastlink.ca for information. Website: www.sunshinecoaster.net


May 22, 2010: A community fair event, the Pender Harbour May Day 4 km Fun Run is free! 8:00am start in Madeira Park at the gov't dock, Pender Harbour. Bring the family and stick around afterwards for a fun-filled day of games, food, parade, entertainment, craft booths and more!


July 9-11, 2010: Join thousands of other paddlers from as far away as Hawaii at the 11th International Howe Sound Outrigger Race, in Gibsons. The largest paddling event of its kind in Canada, this event is touted as one of the top 10 outrigger races in the world. Visit www.clippercanoes.com/outrigger (new window) for more information.

In conjunction with the Sea Cavalcade Festival, this is a one mile road race in Upper Gibsons, right before the parade. Fast slightly downhill course! Very low entry fee. Great for all ages. Pleasant net downhill 5.4 km route starts at Connor Park and ends at the Halfmoon Bay Country Fair in Cooper's Green—entry is free! Bring the whole family and enjoy the Fair afterwards, with food, kids games, music and local artisans. Race starts at 10:30am; sign up at 10:00am at Connor Park (on Northwood, near HMB Elementary).

September TBA, 2010: Terry Fox Run in Gibsons (at Cross-Trainers) and Roberts Creek (at the school). Check local paper for details.


September 26, 2010: Loon Lake 13k, 7.4k in Powell River. 11:00am start. Fabulous trail run on perfectly groomed, wide trail around the lake, with no hills. (The lake is also known as Inland Lake.) Campground on site. Contact Lorne at avidfit@telus.net for info.
